Quick thoughts on various movies. I don't have great taste
so take my words with a grain of salt.
WARNING: There may be spoilers ahead.

✦ Red Dawn (1984)

1/5

01.10.26

My mom chose this for our bi-weekly family movie night. The premise was so stupid and unbelievable...Why Colorado? Why were the protags children? Why was this movie so long??? Your run-of-the-mill FYEAH AMERICA!!!! 1980s American Ingenuity™ propaganda flick.

✦ Nobody 2 (2025)

3/5

12.25.25

This was a fun, dumb action flick. I liked it much better than the first.

✦ The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)

2/5

11.30.25

I enjoyed this one less but also more than The Royal Tenenbaums. Does that even make sense? So far, the patriarch of each film has been a butthead, which I DON'T like. Steve Zissou was annoying but I guess that was the point. I did like the fantastical fishies, though.

✦ The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

3/5

11.29.25

We decided to start a Wes Anderson-athon. I love twee, whimsy, and quirk so it surprises friends that I've only seen two of his films. I didn't enjoy the last film of his I saw (Asteroid City (2023) ) so it put me off of watching the rest of his filmography. Unfortunate because I enjoy his aesthetic vision.

The Royal Tenenbaums revolves around a dysfunctional family, a theme I like in general but I found this to be a slog to get through. This movie was slow and boring IMO and the humor was not my style...an issue I 'm worried about running into repeatedly as we get through his filmography. I don't have much to say about this one besides Gwyneth Paltrow's styling was cute.

✦ The Conjuring: The Last Rite (2025)

3/5

11.29.25

Your average, run-of-the-mill horror movie. As with all of the other films in the Conjuring-verse, I really enjoyed Lorraine's styling. I guess I have old lady tastes, but her outfits are always cute to me lol. This movie was not scary at all and the CGI spooky-faced monster looked amatuer-ish :o(

✦ Frankenstein(2025)

4/5

11.24.25

I really liked this film! I was not sure how good it would be with Jacob Elordi's casting...(RIP Wuthering Heights) Unsurprisingly, I found the set design and costuming really beautiful. It made me want to draw soooo bad. One shot that I really liked was in the beginning of the movie, Victor and his mother on the manor's steps with her vibrant red veil swaying in the wind. What a beautiful shot! The score was good - I particularly was tickled by the gruesome shots of Victor working to create the monster while a whimsical waltz played in the background.

I went in thinking that this would be an accurate depiction of Frankenstein. It was not. True to Del Toro's propensity towards sad, broken monsters, there were changes to the story and characters to make the Monster a much more sympathetic and tragic figure. I didn't mind the changes, though I know some really did. I was fine with the overall portrayal of Victor being the "true" monster because of my personal belief that it does take a monstrous, egoistic man to make a mockery of creating life. Not in a religious way but...I don't know, it seems weird and off-putting LOL but I guess that rant is better off in a diary entry or something.

Anyways, I would recommend anyone into classic, tragic tales to watch this! Though, there were some scenes that I was not prepared for, like the gore of the wolf scene....If you are queasy, beware of the gore!

✦ Sleepy Hollow (1999)

3/5

11.19.25

Just like my feelings for Crimson Peak, I felt that the costuming and sets were great. But I didn't much like the movie unfortunately. I usually really like most of Tim Burton's films but I didn't fall in love with this one for some reason. It was just OK.

✦ Crimson Peak (2015)

3/5

11.18.25

Anyone that knows me knows that I love Victorian Gothic fiction, aesthetics, etc. That being said, I thought this move looked spectacular. I loved the costumes, the ghosts, the set design, the cinematography (the ending shot with the "bloody" snow and the Manor was so good.) However, I thought the story was just average. I am inspired to yoink Edith's long wavy hair and nightgown look for an OC though, so I guess that counts for something.

✦ 47 Ronin (2013)

1/5

11.16.25

I think I just complain about a bunch of stuff that no one else cares about but the costuming and makeup were so ugly for this film I could not focus. The hair and makeup especially was unflattering on the Asian actresses faces (but maybe I'm biased lol) and the CGI was also ugly. I was left completely unsatisfied by this movie because I was told that it was a fun, fantastical take on the classic story!!!! LIARS!!!!

✦ Terrifer (2016)

0/5

10.31.25

I know this is considered a cult classic by some, but it really made me want to bash my head against a wall. The protagonists were dumb as rocks and it feels like the director just wanted to play with practical effects. Which is fine I guess, but why can't we ever have a movie like this where the men are terrorized and brutalized instead of women...Yeah, some dudes died in this movie but why can't there be a scene where the dick & balls of a man is torn off and worn for laughs, instead of a woman's breasts???? I know it's "not that deep" blah blah blah, but I want to watch a group of men get gored instead for once!!!!

✦ Weapons (2025)

2.5/5

09.20.25

This movie had a really slow start for me. I don't know if I would call it good, but there were plenty of entertaining parts. Not scary at all IMO. The chase scene with the kids was really funny.

✦ The Illusionist (2006)

3/5

09.11.25

I guess my taste for whimsy shows itself but I vastly preferred this movie to The Prestige. I was really distracted by Edward Norton's huge forehead/hairline, though. He's really ugly....

✦ The Prestige (2006)

2/5

09.10.25

Sorry but I think this movie is super overhyped. It was boring. And I think the twist was really dumb. I don't know, I generally don't like Christopher Nolan's films. There's a certain 2deep4u Reddit stench to them.

✦ Nobody (2021)

1/5

07.19.25

This movie didn't really hold my interest. I don't even remember the main character's name. I'm trying to think of a scene, ANY scene, from this movie and even though I just watched it, I cannot come up with any.

✦ From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025)

3.5/5

07.05.25

A cliche storyline but I actually enjoyed this movie. The fights were cool and I really liked the fact that Eve was dressed sensibly for most of the movie. I also like a good training montage, hah.

✦ The Old Guard 2 (2025)

1/5

07.04.25

This was even worse than the first one. AWFUL soundtrack. Boring pace. I cared even less about the characters this time around. I just thought it was silly.

✦ The Old Guard (2020)

2/5

6.26.25

It's okay. The soundtrack was really bad. There was some cool fight choreography. Lots of hokey and dramatic dialogue. Nile's actress was also really wooden.

✦ Stardust (2007)

5/5

6.23.25

Cute, whimsical, perfect. I've seen this move several times and I love it every time! My go-to when I need the warm fuzzies.

✦ The Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

3/5

06.22.25

I got bored with this about 70% through. I though Rita was cool, though.

✦ Venom: The Last Dance (2024)

2/5

06.21.25

Not good. There were a couple of funny moments but I felt like this movie was all over the place and had 90000 jokes that did not land. There were some characters I assume we were supposed to care about (like Dr. Paine) but they fell flat. I was a tiny but sad when Venom "died" but I'm sure he will be back.

✦ The Jacket (2005)

2/5

06.19.25

This was dumb and the romance in it was rushed and not believable. Ambiguous ending but I really hope that he [redacted].

✦ Atonement (2007)

4/5

06.18.25

First and last time I will ever watch this movie. Depressing. The Dunkirk scene was shot beautifully and overall uncomfortable. This movie also features James McAvoy looking kinda qt for once.

✦ The Ring 2 (2005)

1/5

06/.17.25

Horrible, horrible movie. It felt like watching someone's fanfic of The Ring come to life. The water CGI in the bathtub scene was cool though.

✦ The Ring (2002)

3/5

06.16.25

A classic. I liked it a lot more when I watched it as a kid. Definitely not scary at all as an adult. Still holds a special place in my heart for being one of the first horror movies I was obsessed with.
