Úna was not raised as a daughter.
In a dark village cursed with perpetual storm, she was born on the only day with sun and birdsong in recent history. Úna was declared the answer to a prophecy that foretold a great evil that would swallow the world.
Raised as a saint and a sacrificial lamb at the same time, Úna was loved in a way that was not genuine or tender. Her entire life was structured around a single holy moment: the day she would be offered up to ward off the evil destined for them all. The village elders dubbed her the Lamb - they fed her, clothed her, taught her prayers and obedience and silence. She was thanked by the villagers for her service, they held vigils for her as if she were already dead.
In a moment of bravery after hearing the elders argue about the sacrifice’s merit behind closed doors, Úna runs.
The lamb that fled.
